A Message from Barbara Ireland
Hello, my name is Barbara Ireland. Thank you for taking the time to visit my website. My
endeavor to become
involved in the fight against breast cancer began nine years ago. I had
recently lost a very dear friend to breast cancer. She was much too young to
die.
Had she been
diagnosed earlier, she most likely would be enjoying her
children and grandchildren today.
However, breast cancer took her life
before her first grandchild was born. I promised her at the
time, I would do
everything in my power to eradicate this disease.
I started the first annual walk for the cure in Santa Barbara in Nov. 1999.
We had approximately
350 walkers, and raised a considerable amount of money.
My goal was to have 100% of monies
raised go directly to fighting breast
cancer.
Being part of this incredible experience is more than an investment in your
personal health.You
will also be supporting innovative research focused on
the prevention of breast cancer. The
facts are daunting and require action.
Approximately 3 million women in the United States are
living with breast
cancer. A woman in the U.S. has a one in eight chances of developing breast
cancer in her lifetime. This year, a new case of breast cancer will be
diagnosed every 13 minutes.
Last year we raised more than $90,000.with 100% of that going directly to
the Cancer Center of
Santa Barbara to support cut
ting edge breast cancer clinical research. This year our goal is to
raise
$100,000.
I invite you to join me, my husband and daughters and their families on Sat.
April 26th at Chase Palm Park,in Santa Barbara for a 10 mile
walk/run.Shorter courses are
available.
Thank you, and may God bless you!
